At regular intervals during the season I'll rank the top players on every team and do a little write up on a few. To start here are the top players from each squad. I base this on a ranking I've developed for SIMs which is similar to the rating Basketball Monster provides for the NBA. It calculates the value based on actual scores normalised over 40mpg (Duncan's actual value is 52.000 over 35mpg which equals 59.429 over 40mpg) - enjoy
Kevin Garnett 61.906 Tim Duncan 59.429 Dirk Nowitzki 56.784 LeBron James 56.302 Dwight Howard 56.080 Dwyane Wade 55.288 Amare Stoudemire 50.315 Shaquille O'Neal 48.755 Paul Pierce 48.542 Jeff McInnis 48.249 Al Harrington 47.205 Mike Bibby 47.000 Pau Gasol 46.809 Kirk Hinrich 46.800 Antawn Jamison 46.667 Yao Ming 46.387 Jameer Nelson 45.958 Tracy McGrady 45.333 Chris Paul 44.894 Ray Allen 44.679 Richard Hamilton 44.371 Elton Brand 44.176 Jason Kidd 44.131 Carmelo Anthony 43.064 Joel Przybilla 42.461 Steve Francis 41.770 Chris Bosh 41.333 Emeka Okafor 40.702 Jason Richardson 39.980

At this early stage of the season its hard to argue with the current front runner - KEVIN GARNETT
For reasons best known to itself, the SIM doesn't rank KG in ANY of the league leader categories if it did he would appear as follows: 35.5ppg...#2 14.3rpg....#1 which would probably be enough but add in 7apg 1.3spg and 2.3bpg and then have your team leader shooting 56% and 91% from the stripe and who needs more? KG was last years regular season MVP and on present form will repeat
Which is tough on Tim Duncan whose figures would be exceptional were it not for the current leader. 30.0mpg 14.3rpg 3.3apg 0.8spg 2.3bpg and a measly 1.8topg all in just 35minutes court time.
A way behind the front two come 3 players tightly bunched:- #3 Nowitzki is the current ppg #1 and its only his rebounding that hampers his overall prospects. #4 LeBron is revelling playing PG for the Cavs where he dominates opponents and is close to a triple double in most games, look for his numbers to improve when the Cavs finally get to play in Cleveland. #5 Dwight Howard is the sleeper and its not hard to see him making his way up the rankings as the season progresses.
